| Hello everyone. This post has been a looooong time coming. I’m thrilled to announce the public release of MAL’s API will be available July 6th at 9pm PDT! One important function of the new API is its oAuth authentication architecture. By utilizing this authentication solution, we ensure MAL members maintain security of their accounts, and at the same time allow a 3rd party to perform actions for them. If you were familiar with our old API, a poor security implementation was its fatal flaw, so getting our security right from the beginning was the number one priority to our team. To facilitate productive discussion, bug reports, or feature suggestions, please join us in our official MAL API Club. This club will be maintained and updated regularly for API-related changes (and will see many changes before the launch of the API.) An important note, this initial version of our API is somewhat feature-minimal. We recognize users want more general website feature support, and so throughout the remainder of the year, we have budgeted a significant amount of developer resources to continue to add functionality. Please be patient as we continue to introduce more features. Lastly, if you’re not busy this July 4th, we’d love it if you came to check out MAL’s first panel and appearance at AX Lite! It’s virtual, and free for all attendees. I’ll also personally be speaking and will be sharing more details about the API. More details here at Anime Expo’s site. |

What you can expect from this news is that you can expect more innovation from third parties which uses MAL API. For example, there can be a site that pulls all the anime you watch here and suggest you new anime based on the rating you inputted here in your list or do something basic as using the API to find details about an anime. Think of it as another site being able to extract the data from here with ease. As for changes here, you shouldn't expect any as this is backend + it took the devs here like 2 years to bring back the API so shouldn't expect any major changes from them. |

In this case, the new MAL API should allow developers to better integrate their apps with official MAL information, allowing to synchronize their Anime/Manga lists, searcha anime or manga, score them, etc etc etc. I see, so it's more of something that helps other websites and not MAL |
